Safety incident in Balhaf results in a fatality

Yemen LNG Company regrets to announce the occurrence of a fatal accident which occurred on Monday afternoon, at the Yemen LNG Construction site at Balhaf, South of Yemen. The accident resulted in one death and two injured persons after equipment overturned and trapped three workers beneath it. One injured person was evacuated to hospital and the other received medical treatment locally.

Yemen LNG regrets this tragic incident and extends its deep condolences to the deceased’s family and friends and wishes the other two injured workers a speedy recovery.

The company initiated a top-level investigation to fully understand the root causes of the incident. Witness statements are being compiled and safety measures will be reviewed, and if necessary, tightened following conclusion of the investigations.

Yemen LNG stresses its commitment to the issue of safety in all its activities and to achieving a high standard of safety performance by itself and its contractors.

Yemen LNG is currently constructing a natural gas liquefaction plant on the coast of Balhaf, Shabwa, as well as a 320-kilometer pipeline which will connect the gas processing facilities in Block 18 in Marib to the liquefaction facilities, located at around 400 km East of Aden. The construction is currently involving over 7,000 people in Balhaf and almost another 2,000 along the pipeline.
