10 November 2007
Ten recently selected marine cadet trainees sponsored by Yemen LNG left to Malaysia on 10th October 2007 to start their nautical studies. They will join the first batch of 10 trainees selected in June 2006. Those selected will follow a three to four-year training programme in Malaysia. Upon successful completion of the training programme, candidates will have the opportunity for career progression within either the Deck or Engineering professions within Misc (Malaysian International Shipping Company), potentially moving upwards to fill more senior positions in the future. This sponsorship program is part of Yemen LNG effort to find additional career opportunities for young Yemenis where possible.

AP Moller Maersk (APMM) and (MISC( have been awarded the contracts for four dedicated LNG tankers, and these will be crewed ultimately by Yemenis. Yemen LNG assisted both APMM and MISC in mid 2007 to identify and select the second batch of Yemeni cadets. Today, five cadets are following their training programme in Chennai, India and twenty in Malaysia.

Annual intakes of 15 trainees (5 to APMM and 10 to MISC) are anticipated each year for 10 years, which will give approximately 150 Yemeni nationals the opportunity of international marine careers. The recruitment campaigns for future intakes of cadets will be advertised nationally and through this website.
