“Today, we are witnessing a good example of reaching out to NGOs and we wish other companies would follow Yemen LNG’s example in providing useful and thoughtful support in the form of donations,” said Prof. Khaled Tamim, Rector of Sana’a University during the inauguration of the Computerised Reader Lab for Blind Students. “Next step would be to train all blind students at the University on the new equipment donated by Yemen LNG”, he concluded.

On Tuesday, 28 October 2008, Deputy General Manager, Faisal Haitham, inaugurated the Computerised Reader Lab for Blinds at the Yemeni Cultural Center which has been partially donated by Yemen LNG as part of its social responsibility programme.

At the inauguration ceremony, Haitham stated that “Yemen LNG always looks for genuine partnership opportunities with quality civil society and private initiatives and for that purpose we have established a donation and sponsorship programme.” “Support from Yemen LNG is granted on the basis of clear criteria of quality, sustainability of impact and relevance to the development needs of beneficiaries”, he noted.


Yemen LNG has contributed the amount of US$25,900 towards the establishment of the Computerised Reader Lab in the form of 10 computers equipped with Ibsar specialised software programmes. The contribution forms around 70 % of the total establishment costs. Ibsar programmes enable the computer user to hear and record every operation the computer performs. That way, the blind students will be able to work on their research papers on all computer applications, including the common MS Word, Excel and the like, and the computer would read out what is written and would help them make any necessary corrections.

“Now blind students can do their research without having to ask for any help,” said Fatima Al-Akil, the prominent Director of Al-Aman Blind Care Association. “Around 180 blind students will be benefiting from this lab and the number will keep growing,” She added.

Al-Aman Blind Care Association is the first Centre in Yemen for training and community rehabilitation for sight handicapped, and the only institution specialized in printing books in Braille—a specialised printing equipment for blind people. Among other achievements, the Centre has already benefited 143 blind women and 30 children from various schools in Sana’a and selected governorates.


“Yemen LNG is a world-class company that supports quality local initiative”, Ammar Al-Anssi, the Company’s Events Coordinator pointed out at the ceremony. “This comes as a demonstration of Yemen LNG’s social responsibility and corporate citizenship".
