29 January 2009In another win in the race with time, the first of the four Gas-Turbine Generators (GTGs) started producing electricity on Sunday, 25 January 2009. This is an important milestone as it paves the way for more equipment start up such as the boilers, desalination units and other important equipment. The four GTGs will be connected to a 33 kilo volt (kv) switchboard and will provide the main power to the Plant each at the rate of 25.95MVA (MegaVolt Ampere). In normal operation, three GTG's will be running and the fourth one is going to be on 'cold' standby. The estimated normal operating load demand is 55 megawatt. It is noteworthy here that during all pre-commissioning, commissioning and GTG 1 start up activities, no Lost Time Incidents (LTIs) were reported which confirms the rigorous efforts of all teams involved in the preparation for the Ready For Start-Up (RFSU) phase.
