08 March 2011The International Women’s day is marked on the 8th of March every year. Yemen LNG celebrated the event for the first time at its main office in Sana’a together with its female members of staff and with the presence of representatives of non-governmental women organizations working together with Yemen LNG for the promotion of women in society. The programs which Yemen LNG is involved in include in particular: • The construction of schools for girls in Shabwa • The employment of female school teachers in Shabwa • Women development and capacity building programs in Shabwah • The support to the Bir Ali Women Association in Shabwah • The Support to Female Handicapped Association in the coastal villages of Shabwah • The program of micro enterprise for women in Shabwa • The support to Martyr Al Zubairi Society for Women Programs in Sana’a • The support to 22 May Society for Women Programs in Sanaa • The support to Baitana Association for Women Programs in Sana’a • The award of scholarships to female students to obtain the French language proficiency diploma at Sana’a. • The award of scholarships to female students to study in French universities • Support to a women-in-technology initiative with SOUL organization, and building a fully equipped training laboratory for female students in Sana’a • The Support to lab equipment programs and curriculum printing program for Al-Aman Blind Women Association in Sana’a • The support to a project in Taiz for women to undergo NGO management and small businesses management courses. Yemen LNG is also considering plans in favor of the employment of women which include: • Equal treatment between men and women in terms of salary, training, promotions, access to responsibilities • Maintaining of salary increases and bonuses during maternity leave • Introduction of part time work for mothers of young children and for women who attend graduating programs at university for their career development • Study of a company nursery project at Sana’a • Assignment of 1 new company recruitment out of 4 jobs to women. On this occasion, the General Manager, Mr. Francois Rafin, stated the Company’s commitment to attract young graduated women with high potential for technical, legal and financial careers in the gas industry. “This will be a key condition for our long term success in the very competitive international LNG industry”, Mr. Francois added. Speaking on behalf of the women NGOs in attendance, Ms. Najeebah Sheikh, Head of the Women Union in Shabwa, thanked Yemen LNG for the overall assistance that are provided to women development activities in Shabwa and in particular those targeting improving girls’ education and spreading health awareness on safe motherhood. Ms. Najeebah has requested the Company to accelerate the implementation process of the female teachers’ recruitment plan and the mobile health units’ project in Shabwa as planned by Yemen LNG.
