27 June 2011Yemen LNG General Manager, François Rafin, and Al-Shurooq Women Association Chairman Ms. Amena Ahmed Al-Hadad signed on 15 June an agreement to implement Yemen LNG’s Women Development Program in areas adjacent to Yemen LNG Balhaf Plant. According to the agreement, the Al-Shurooq Women Association will embark on a one year and half program to build the institutional capacity of rural women in the local communities of Bir Ali, Ayn Bamabad, Eiad and Al-Dahrah in Shabwa Governorate. The capacity building programs include improving women’s skills in sewing, beautification, computer skills, and communication and cooperation, in addition to promoting coordinated community development and income generation projects. Targeting around 2,000 rural women, the Women Development Program will enable women to run development associations in their areas, and create their own small businesses to generate more income. Speaking on the occasion, Yemen LNG General Manager François Rafin stated that “this project will significantly help capacitate the skills of rural women in the local communities of Shabwa; and will have positive results on their lives.”
