12 May 2013Yemen LNG General Manager, Jacques Azibert, and the Governor of Shabwa, Ahmed BaHajj, signed today in Sana’a an agreement by which Yemen LNG is to sponsor illiteracy eradication programs and reaffirm continuation of annual university scholarships for Shabwa youths. Another agreement was also signed by which Yemen LNG is to finance an electricity project to expand the Rudhoum district electricity network, benefiting an additional population of over 400 people. According to the signed education agreement, Yemen LNG shall sponsor 18 classes targeting around 1,000 women in the coastal areas and along the pipeline to help reduce illiteracy rates and encourage girls’ education. The scholarship program, on the other hand, provides since 2010 forty young students from Shabwa governorate each year with the opportunity to join undergraduate Engineering and Medicine disciplines in Yemeni universities to help prepare them for the labor market. Commenting on the event, General Manager, Jacques Azibert, stressed that “these programs are driven by Yemen LNG’s commitment to support sustainable development initiatives in Yemen in general and in our areas of operations in particular, with a focus primarily on education, health, electricity and water”.
