13 November 2013In the presence of Deputy Minister of Fish Wealth Mr. Gazi Lahmer, Yemen LNG organized on 13 November in Balhaf the opening workshop for the Fishermen Capacity Building Project that targets 200 local fishermen representing 12 fishery cooperatives in the coastal areas of Shabwah governorate. The Yemen LNG financed project will be implemented by the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Service (SMEPS), a young SME development agency. The project runs for three months in the coastal areas during which the targeted fishermen will receive 60 training courses in Global Positioning System (GPS) techniques, fish quality and maintenance of boat engines. Yemen LNG will also contribute to the provision of GPS devices and maintenance tool boxes for 120 fishermen. The objective of the project is to increase fishermen’s income, reduce fuel consumption by using GPS technology and enhance fishermen’s skills in solving boat engine problems. The project also aims to raise fishermen’s awareness in fish product quality and maintaining sustainable fishing. At the end of the workshop, Shabwa Fishery Cooperatives Union presented a certificate of appreciation to Yemen LNG in recognition for its contribution to the development of fishing communities. The workshop was also attended by representatives of Ministry of Oil and SMEPS, directors of the fishery cooperatives, and Yemen LNG SD team.
