During the annual IGU meetings in Berlin, Yemen’s application for Charter Membership was accepted. The IGU annual meetings which took place last week in Berlin, Germany, were attended by Yemen LNG as the main and only LNG entity representing the country. This has been a result of the strong support from the Yemeni Ministry of Oil and Minerals.

The IGU is a reputed worldwide non-profit organization, uniting gas associations and companies from 83 countries. The IGU comprises 83 Charter Members and 42 Associate Members, which include large LNG importers and producers including Qatar, Algeria, France, Russia, Japan, Korea and China. IGU promotes the political, technical and economic progress of the global gas industry, directly and through its members and in collaboration with other multilateral organizations. IGU also supports and facilitates the global transfer of technology and know-how.

During the IGU meeting in Berlin, KOGAS was elected for the presidency of the IGU from 2018 to 2021. It was also decided that KOGAS would host the 28th World Gas Conference and World Gas Exhibition in 2021.

Since November 2009, Yemen LNG Company has been producing and delivering Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) steadily to over 15 countries worldwide including the Americas, Asia and Europe.

Yemen LNG enjoys robust shareholding between five international companies, including Total and Kogas, Hunt, Hyundai, and SK Group; and two Yemeni state corporations; namely YGC and GASSP. At full capacity, the plant makes Yemen the fourth largest LNG exporter in the Middle East and amongst the top ten in the world.
