Yemen LNG has successfully participated in a two-month clean-up drive of an oil spill that occurred early July 2013 in the shores of Mukalla City in Yemen’s eastern province of Hadhramout. Local authorities of Mukalla organized on 15 September a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the clean-up activities, and Yemen LNG was recognized for its outstanding contribution to the prevention of pollution caused by the oil spill.

Responding to calls from Hadhramout local authorities, Yemen LNG had acted fast to provide the necessary support for cleaning up of an oil spill that occurred in the coastal waters and along the coastline of Mukalla. The spill was caused by Mazut leakage from ‘Champion 1’ Oil Tanker, which stranded off the coast of the city of Mukalla on 11 July 2013.

Yemen LNG teams were mobilized within two days to the affected area to provide clean up assistance of the oil spill that spread along the shore for 20 kilometers.

The assistance also included provision of essential equipment from UAE to be used in the vessel tanks emptying and clean-up efforts. The equipment included Oil Skimmer System, Waste Oil Storage Tank System, and Hot Water Jet Cleaning System in addition to absorbents, booms and pads.
